Abroad in Your Inbox Vol. 4

HEY YOU!! HAPPY SUNDAY! I AM BEAMING AS I WRITE THIS!

Idk if I’m being overly optimistic or naive but I feel that things are looking up. The weather has been crazy warm here in Chicago {lol that means it’s in the 40s woahhh wild} and we’re supposed to have a few days in the 50s next week. The days are getting longer, March is my birthday month and I have a few work trips lined up that I cannot WAIT to spill all the deets on. SO YO GIRL IS FEELING LIKE HER OLD SELF {well kinda lol}

I was just having this conversation with Linda that one of the many things COVID has taught me is to celebrate and express gratitude for the little things. I know that sounds so woowoo but truly, if the sun is shining, my family and I are healthy and travel is on the horizon, WE GUCCI!

IF YOU’RE NEW, HEY!!! Abroad in Your Inbox is a weekly collection of news articles, blog posts, products, podcasts, videos & anything else that’s on the interwebs that will help you navigate this new era of travel, reignite your wanderlust, help you plan a future trip & make you giggle {because what’s the point if we can’t laugh!?}

CURRENTLY OBSESSING OVER

  1. FAV PURCHASE - I HAVE GOOD BATHINGSUIT NEWS! Lol, you guys… I was dying at how many of you shared your favorite places to shop for swimsuits that weren’t thongs and didn’t annihilate your bank account over on IG after I shared that I was looking for a new swimmy. So I figured I’d report back with my research and findings and share some of the suits I snagged based on your recs. {I’ll be sure to give you all my thoughts over on IG once these arrive ;}

    1. I am LOVING J. Crews’ swimwear & many of the styles are on sale RN {score} I snagged this seersucker bikini top, high-waisted bottoms & coverup all for under $150.

    2. ASOS has always been my spot for affordable & flattering suits. I currently have this polka dot one-piece & this coral tie die cut out piece in my cart

    3. I am cautiously optimistic by how many of you suggested CUPSHE but I’m going to give it a try and I adore this green floral print bikini & this color blocking pink and white one-piece

  2. FAV PODCAST - I guarantee you that NPR’s Life Kit Podcast will change your life. I know that’s a bold statement but I have yet to find a more helpful podcast on quite literally ANY topic. The show describes itself and helping listeners be a better human and has advice on everything from how to quit your job, & tackling imposter syndrome {something I struggle with OFTEN} to how to brew a better cup of coffee. If there’s something you’re struggling with right now, there’s a 99.9% chance Life Kit did an episode on that.

  3. FAV READ - I’m getting ready to film a video on my top 10 favorite travel books and I needed something to fill spot 10 so I did a bit of research and came across The Rainbow Atlas: A Guide to the World’s 500 Most Colorful Places. This is literally me in book form lol. If you love travel, color & pretty things, you need this book. I’ve taken to reading about a few new places each night before bed and jotting down the spots I want to visit in My Bucket List Journal.

  4. FAV WATCH - Last night I started watching 'Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy' on CNN and I gotta say I love him even more than I already did. But I also must admit that I’m insanely jealous of his gig lol. If you’re looking for an easy watch, filled with delicious Italian food, Stanley’s lovable personality, and beautiful Italian destinations, this is essential viewing. PS it airs every Sunday on CNN at 9 p.m. ET and was just renewed for season 2!

This week I’m taking you to the land of red meat, malbec, glaciers, and tango - we’re traveling to Argentina, my friends! I’ve gotta be honest that when I visited Argentina for the first time in 2019 I was totally half-baked about the country…Don’t get me wrong I was excited but it wasn’t at the top of my must travel list. But after spending 2 weeks traveling ALL around this MASSIVE country I was blown away and Argentina quickly became one of my favorite countries I’ve ever visited.

In this video, I’m going over EVERYTHING you need to know before you go. From the basics of how to communicate and get around to the best things to eat, see and do. If you’ve ever considered visiting this country, check out this video and then save it for when you’re ready to start planning your adventures.

LISTEN TO LINDA

Hello, Alle’s friends!

I come baring positive sustainable travel news! I’m becoming more and more optimistic about the return to sustainable international travel once it is safe for us to do so. I wanted to share an article I just read in the New York Times about the travel insustry’s sustainable comeback. Sustainability in tourism has been a topic I’ve always been passionate about and a major focus of mine when booking travel for my clients. This article gives me hope that positive changes are already being made to positively impact the communities we visit and the world we all live in.

This article walks you through some of the many sustainable initiatives that have been started during the pandemic.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN CHICAGO

  1. CHICAGO RESTAURANT WEEK IS 3/19 - 4/4 - Now more than ever it’s important for us to support our local Chicago restaurants and this year’s restaurant week is the perfect opportunity for us to do just that! This year’s event will offer dine-in, delivery, and/or carry-out options from 265 restaurants representing 34 distinct Chicago neighborhoods. Personally, I’m most excited to support Virtue Restaurant in Hyde Park, Bar Roma in Andersonville & Carnivale in West Loop.

  2. DON’T MESS WITH CHICAGO - If I know you like I think I do, you’ve watched Emily in Paris on Netflix {right?!}. And as a fellow Chicagoan, you probably remember the part where she dissed our deep dish pizza {which don’t hate me butttttttt I agree}. All that being said my girl Jenn Lake wrote the BEST open letter to Emily which had me loling at her undying love for Chicago’s staple dish and her cleaver, punny writing that always has me walking away wanting to read more. Do yourself a favor and read it and then follow Jenn because she’s my Chicago color icon.

HAPPY ENDING

My friend Sally sent me this reel yesterday and I literally CACKLEDDDDD. It’s this guy pretending to be late for his flight and rushing around the house grabbing an absurd amount of bags. But the ending is the funniest part and all my fellow mid-western pals can probably totally relate lol.
