Abroad in Your Inbox Vol. 3

HEY YOU! Happy Sunday! IDK about you but I feel very reflective on Sundays. It’s a day where I think back on the week and evaluate what went well and what didn’t…I’m really trying to get more into these weekly habits of journaling, checking in on my goals, and actually measuring progress because if I’m honest…I haven’t been so good at that in the past. But 2021, new year new me right? LOL. If you’re into this too, you’re going to love this week’s FAV PURCHASE.

This week was BEYOND productive & included a number of exciting developments for my group travel trips for women {CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR NAME ON THE WAITLIST} and future travel hosting opportunities that I can’t wait to share with you soon! I genuinely feel so much hope as it relates to once again being able to safely travel and doing so in a way that’s sustainable and leaves the destination better than we found it.

IF YOU’RE NEW, HEY!!! Abroad in Your Inbox is a weekly collection of news articles, blog posts, products, podcasts, videos & anything else that’s on the interwebs that will help you navigate this new era of travel, reignite your wanderlust, help you plan a future trip & make you giggle {because what’s the point if we can’t laugh!?}

THE LATEST

TRAVEL

  1. I’M A US CITIZEN, WHERE IN THE WORLD CAN I GO? - here’s an alphabetical list of countries, that, as of Feb. 17, were open to U.S. citizens, or were expected to open soon.

  2. 3 PLACES TO AVOID IN AN AIRPORT UNTIL YOU’RE VACCINATED - I have to say that I’ve been hesitant to get back on a plane after my first and only flight of 2020. But as more and more of us are vaccinated and airlines’ health & safety procedures are streamlined, I feel more and more confident that I will feel safer taking to the skies soon. But that doesn’t mean we don’t still need to take precautions and I think this article outlines some key things to think about before your next flight

  3. 6 US CITIES THAT ARE FULL OF EUROPEAN CHARM - Since most of our European adventures are on pause until further notice, why not get your Eurotrip fix by visiting one of these destinations, no passport required. I actually visited one of these cities last year and I can confirm, it’s full of French charm.

  4. WHAT DOES TRAVEL ANXIETY LOOK LIKE IN 2021? - I’ve been lucky enough to not confront travel anxiety for most of my life, but I have to admit that I’ve gotten a bit more apprehensive since the start of the pandemic {as I’m sure many of us have}. I appreciate how this article lays out why these feelings are valid and shares a few ideas of how to cope. For me, it’s mostly anxiety over flying…and I really like how this article from the Points Guy breaks down 7 ways to make pandemic travel easier.

  5. VACCINES FOR EVERY AMERICAN BY JULY? - on Tuesday President Biden said that every American who wanted a COVID vaccine would be able to get one by the end of July. And gosh I sure hope that’s the case because in my mind that gives me great hope for the return of international travel by Q4 this year.

CURRENTLY OBSESSING OVER

  1. FAV PURCHASE - I am obsessive about my Sunday rituals and have been making a concerted effort to journal more. But oftentimes when I sit down to a blank piece of paper my mind goes BLANK too…Has that ever happened to you? If so, you’ve gotta check out the Press Pause Journal. It’s a journal that you write in once a week and it’s loaded with various prompts to get you in the reflective mood and set your week up for success. PS this is the same company that makes the My Bucket List journal that I’m always raving about.

  2. FAV PODCAST - My gal pal and fellow Mizzou J-School alum, Stacy Ike, just launched her podcst Human2Human which features some of the world’s BIGGEST thought leaders (HER FIRST EPISODE IS WITH GLENNON DOYLE!!!) motivators and ultimate dreamers in a candid conversation that amplifies connection, community and healing. You’ve also gotta check out her interview with Jessica Nabongo {the first documented Black woman to travel to every country in the world}

  3. FAV WATCH - I binged three celebrity documentaries last night and omg…all I have to say is that I would NEVER want to be famous…If you have even tapped your toe along to a Britney Spears song, you HAVE to watch the Free Britney Documentary. It’s sad, twisted and honestly disgusts me to think of how we view celebs as animals in the zoo…Also the Paris Hilton Documentary is mind-blowingly shocking as well…

  4. FAV READ - Personal development is something I’ve been getting more into this year and one of the ways I’ve dipped my toes into this genre of book is through Brendon Burchard’s “High-Performance Habits: How Extraordinary People Become That Way” The book walks you through the habits of some of the most successful people and walks you through how you can implement them into your life {no matter your career!}

BUT in the meantime, check out this video where I walk you through my exact process of creating and achieving my travel bucket list dreams.

LISTEN TO LINDA

WHAT IT’S LIKE GOING ON SAFARI DURING COVID-19 - This week rather than sharing a tip, I wanted to share an article that showcases what travel to Africa looks like during the pandemic. Going on an African safari is on many people’s bucket lists and this article explains why now might be the perfect time to go and how to do so safely.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN CHICAGO

  1. Getaway Cabins are opening a location just 2 hours outside of Chicago! - I’m sure you’ve seen some of your friends or family book secluded stays in the woods over the past year. Getaway is a collection of tiny cabins spread throughout the USA in remote areas aimed at providing travelers a place to get off the grid and get into nature. Getaway Barber Creek is in Grand Junction, Michigan, just a bit over two hours from Chicago, and will have 41 socially distant cabins available beginning in April. {ps this week they’re running a sale where the cabins are only $129 a night}. Def considering this for the summer!

  2. 9 New Black-Owned Restaurants In Chicago - As we near the end of Black History Month, I wanted to make sure to spotlight some of the amazing new Black-Owned restaurants that have opened in Chicago. But also have to give a shoutout to two of my mainstays - Virtue Restaurant - which is the most phenomenal Hyde Park restaurant and is back open for indoor dining {learn more about them here} And Chicago French Press which has the most creative coffee blends I’ve ever tried {hear from the founder Kris here}

  3. THE COOLEST FLOWER SHOP IN CHICAGO - I stumbled upon the most incredible, beautifully curated flower & gift shop yesterday in the West Loop. Maybe you’ve seen it, maybe you haven’t but you need to check it out ASAP. There’s fine jewelry, house plants, & the most incredible cheetah bookends that you never knew you needed.

HAPPY ENDING

Watch this half-naked ice skater plunge into the icy waters of the Amsterdam canal he was skating on {don’t worry he’s okay lol} Thanks to my girl Lauren of @girlgoneabroad for sharing this week and making me lol. Follow her for more of her Amsterdam adventures.
