Hello from Costa Rica!!

Wow, I know I say this about everywhere I go, but this country is seriously magical. It’s quite literally a tropical paradise and I feel SO lucky to be here and not in the cold. If you’ve been to Costa Rica, you know what’s up. If you haven’t, let me give you 10 reasons why you should consider this destination for your next trip.

It’s stunning

The pictures should really speak for themselves. Costa Rica means “Rich Coast” and the country is FULL of diverse, lush landscapes. Costa Rica has both tropical and subtropical climates and it’s famous for its variation in weather and temperature.  In about 2 hours you can experience a dry arid desert climate and then cross the continental divide and find yourself in a tropical rainforest.

The flight from the US isn’t bad

Depending on where you fly from, the travel time is TOTALLY bearable. Coming from Chicago our flight was around 4 hours and there’s only a 1 hour time change. If you’re looking for a quick place to escape the cold and don’t want to spend too much time on a plane - definitely visit Costa Rica.

The country has an extremely low carbon footprint

More than a quarter of the country is protected as national parks and reserves. In turn that helps to protect 5% of the world’s biodiversity that calls Costa Rica home. The country has a goal to become carbon neutral by 2021. Something I am ALL FOR.

Everyone is SUPER happy

Costa Rica is consistently named the happiest country in the world and it’s not hard to see why. You notice it from the second you step off the plane. Even the customs agents are full of smiles and happy to let you practice your rusty Spanish on them. The country’s saying is Pura Vida, meaning pure life, and often times that’s how people will greet you.

You can see one of the most active volcanos in the world

The Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanos in the world and also boasts the most perfect cone in the world (lol). It was dormant for hundreds of years until it erupted in 1968. It stands 5,358 feet tall and is considered a relatively young volcano, only about 7,000 years old (double lol).

If you love adventure

From zip lining to white water rafting - Costa Rica is the place for adventure seekers. If you like hiking, biking, surfing, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, etc. you need to plan a trip to the adventure capital of Central America.

The coffee is BOMB

Compared to its neighbors, Costa Rica doesn’t produce a whole lot of coffee. But what it does produce is TOP NOTCH. The reason? The country was the region’s coffee-growing pioneer and its emphasis on quality over quantity is apparent. Costa Rica passed a low in 1989 that makes it illegal to grow low quality coffee beans. And thanks to the country’s near perfect coffee bean growing conditions what winds up in your mug is liquid gold.

If you love animals

Costa Rica is home to more than 500,000 species! So that means there’s PLENTY of chances to see some pretty cool animals. From Toucans and frogs to monkeys and ocelots - Costa Rica is an animal lovers paradise.

Waterfalls, rainforests, and jungles oh my!

Picture some of the most incredible waterfalls in the world and you’re sure to find some of them nestled in the heart of the Costa Rican jungle. You truly feel like you’re in paradise when you visit the country’s many jungles and rainforests. And if you truly want to feel like you’re living amongst the animals and nature - book a stay at Nayara Resorts. This was my view this morning…
