Embark on a 10-day/9-night dazzling Moroccan adventure in style with Gals Abroad Getaways to some of Morocco’s most enchanting destinations. Marrakech - 4 nights
With the design flair of Paris, the ethnic diversity of New York City, the commercial heartbeat of Hong Kong and a history to rival any European city, Marrakech is at the very heart and soul of Morocco and is the perfect place to begin our grand Moroccan tour.
Nestled between Southern Europe and Africa, Marrakech is truly a blend of ancient cultures, history and cuisine.
Get ready for a sensory overload as you wander through the winding pink alleyways of the Medina soaking in the rich colorful hues and the whirlwind of activity.
The Sahara Desert - 2 nights
Stretching some 3.5 million miles and touching 11 countries, the Sahara Desert is the largest hot desert in the world and is roughly the size of the entire United States.
While the journey to this remote part of the world is a long one (approx 9.5 hours), there is simply nothing more magnificent than watching the sky set ablaze as the sun rises over the desert’s iconic sand dunes.
This truly once-in-a-lifetime destination is an absolutely essential stop on our tour. We will ride off into the sunset on camels, sandboard down the dunes and embrace the local traditions in one of the most remote destinations in the world.
Ouarzazate - 1 night
We take a leisurely return journey to our next destination breaking up our long drive with a stop in Ouarzazate for the evening.
Once a city that was known as a trading center for camel caravans from sub-Saharan Africa, now is referred to as “Ouallywood” as it’s been the filming location for major blockbuster movies such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia & most recently season 3 of Game of Thrones.
A-list celebrities the likes of Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Martin Scorsese have spent weeks, if not months working and enjoying all Ouarzazate and the surrounding region have to offer & now you will too.
The High Atlas Mountains - 2 nights
By far one of the most serene destinations in Morocco, we’ll trade sand for mountains as we explore North Africa’s highest mountain range & rest our heads in one of the most luxurious hotels in the area.
This massive mountain range runs diagonally across Morocco for nearly 650 miles and is known by local Berbers as ‘Idraren Draren’ (Mountains of Mountains).
It’s here where we will connect with the Berbers who call themselves - Amazigh or the “free people” and have ruled the area unconquered for thousands of years.

Casablanca - 1 night
Casablanca is the country’s largest city and the best representation of modern Morocco. As the economic and business center of the country this is where money is being made and where business and creative industries prosper.
Casablanca is also home to one of Morocco’s most important monuments - Hassane II Mosque. This is the largest mosque in Africa and one of the only mosques open to non-muslim visitors in Morocco.
This dazzling architectural marvel is said to be one of the most beautiful mosques in the world and absolutely worth a visit.
Chefchaouen - 1 night
Easily one of the most enchanting towns in all of Morocco - Chefchaouen - is painted in a palette of calming blue hues and truly feels like its own world.
Travelers can easily spend hours wandering through this blue-washed mountain village, snapping photos, popping into shops and admiring the shockingly serene old Medina, a sharp contrast from the medinas in Fes & Marrakech.
Because of its close proximity to Spain, you’ll feel the Andalusian influence not only in the architecture but also in its cuisine.
Fes - 2 nights
We end this leg of our journey in Morocco’s second-largest city and one so perfectly preserved it feels like someone has pressed pause on time.
The city’s history dates back to the 8th century and was referred to as the “Athens of Africa”. This was the gathering place for the brightest Islamic minds and is home to one of the world’s oldest still operating universities.
Fes’s Medina is a labyrinth of narrow passages that one can easily lose themselves in. You’ll share the tiny car-free streets with donkeys pulling carts and locals doing their daily errand running.
The star attraction is observing the ancient craft dying leather in one of Fes’s oldest tanneries. The craft remains virtually unchanged from the process of ancient times and is fascinating to observe.

That said we empower our gals to be self-sufficient & lean into their adventurous side. Where possible, we will provide some free time so you have the flexibility to explore the city or kick back and relax because we understand that everyone has a different travel style. But we will ALWAYS be there to assist with suggestions & recommendations.
SPECIAL MOROCCO CONSIDERATIONS:
YOU DON’T MIND LONG CAR RIDES - Our main method for getting from one destination to the other will be by road with some drives being anywhere from 45 minutes to 9.5 hours (when we drive to the Sahara desert). We’ll be driving on sometimes bumpy, rural roads to venture to these incredibly authentic destinations. For anyone who is prone to motion sickness, please proceed with caution.
YOU ARE ABLE TO WALK UP MULTIPLE FLIGHTS OF STAIRS- one of the biggest components of traveling in Morocco is that many locations do not have elevators. While at every hotel we will have porters to assist with bringing your luggage to your room, you should be comfortable walking up anywhere from 1-4 flights of stairs at our Riads, restaurants or at certain ancient monuments.
YOU LIKE TO TRAVEL IN STYLE BUT ARE EXCITED TO EMBRACE AUTHENTIC MOROCCAN ACCOMMODATION - Most of the hotels, riads, camps and kasbahs we will be staying at are anything but standard luxury hotels - but that’s what we love about them. They are former fortresses & homes that have been transformed into luxury accommodations. That said, no two rooms are the same in nearly all of the hotels we will be staying at. We choose these hotels because they truly embody the character of Morocco. As with any of our hotel choices we prioritize safety, cleanliness, location, character, and above all else a capable & kind hotel team.
YOU ARE OPEN TO EMBRACING THE LOCAL CUISINE - While we always do our best to accommodate our gal’s dietary requirements, certain remote aspects of our itinerary limit the amount of variety of meals in destinations like the Sahara. We will be enjoying the local Moroccan cuisine often (which predominantly features dishes with meat, some seafood, grains and vegetables).
YOU ARE PREPARED TO BE ON THE MOVE - In an effort to make the most out of your time in Morocco, we’ve created an itinerary that aims to show you the very best of what this destination has to offer while allowing for free time when possible. That said, while some days activities are lighter than others, this is not a trip for those looking to kick back and relax for the entire 10 days (but we are happy to help with booking extra nights at the end of the trip for a little R&R if your schedule allows.)
YOU ARE READY TO BE ACTIVE - This trip is for the intrepid traveler who is not afraid of long drives, lots of walking and sometimes being outside in hot temperatures. This trip involves a lot of walking, standing, and moving around in sometimes busy cities. Our gals should be willing and able to walk up to 3+ miles each day and be able to stand for extended periods of time.
YOU ARE READY TO STRETCH YOURSELF AS A TRAVELER - Morocco is a dazzling and incredible country but it can be an overwhelming destination to travelers whose only travel experience has been to North America, Western European countries, or the Caribbean. It’s a destination of dualities and any traveler who wants to visit should make sure you take some time to familiarize yourself with the culture prior to your trip.

One of the unique components of this getaway is that we will be accompanied by an expert local guide for the duration of our Moroccan adventure.
Ease of travel, safety, and access to a wealth of knowledge are all essential components of any trip we put together and having that extra layer of guidance and expertise for the duration of our journey is something we are proud to offer. We work with local Moroccan hosts with many years of experience because we feel that no one is better equipped to provide context about this unique destination than someone who lives there.
WHERE WE’RE STAYING:
*A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT HOTELS*
Most of the hotels, riads, camps and kasbahs we will be staying at are anything but standard luxury hotels - but that’s what we love about them. They are former fortresses & homes that have been transformed into luxury accommodations. That said, no two rooms are the same in half of the hotels we will be staying at. We choose these hotels because they truly embody the character of Morocco. As with any of our hotel choices we prioritize safety, cleanliness, location, character, and above all else a capable & kind hotel team.
Due to the nature of our unique accommodations in certain riads & kasbahs, not all guests will have the same room type. For example, at Kasbah Tamadot we will be staying in rooms that are both luxury tents & rooms that are in the historic Kasbah. Room preference in these instances will be given in the order in which guests sign up (so the sooner you register the higher the chance of getting the room type you’re looking to stay in).
OPTIONAL & REQUIRED ROOM UPGRADES
Upon sign-up, we will be offering an option to upgrade to higher-category rooms at La Maison Arabe & Kasbah Tamadot due to the limited number of standard rooms at these hotels. This means that the sooner you sign up, the greater your chances of having the room type you prefer (room preference will be given in order of sign-up).
After we reach our minimum of 10 passengers, and if everyone selects the lowest category rooms, we will only be able to offer suites at La Maison Arabe & luxury tents at Kasbah Tamadot an additional cost (explained in costing below).
Recently awarded the #1 spot on TripAdvisor’s 2022 list of top 25 hotels in Africa, La Maison Arabe is one of the most authentic luxury riads in Marrakech. While it’s ideally located just steps from the ancient medina, this historic property still maintains its tranquility amongst the hustle and bustle.
Before it was a hotel, it was one of Marrakech’s finest and first dining establishments (Winston Churchill used to dine here during his time in Marrakech).
As an added bonus - the property has a country resort in the Palmeraie neighborhood of Marrakech, with a large pool, gardens, restaurant and cooking school. A complimentary shuttle operates between the two properties and guests are welcome to use the facilities there.
MERZOUGA LUXURY DESERT CAMP - SAHARA DESERT
By far one of the most memorable moments of this journey will be our time in the Sahara Desert. And while this destination is certainly remote, your glamping experience will provide you with comfort and style. Equipped with air conditioning, heating, a shower, a toilet & a cozy bed, this is next-level camping. But, let’s set some realistic expectations here…we’re staying in the middle of the desert…in a tented structure…there will be sand & the wifi will be weak. But isn’t that why you’re visiting this part of the world?
The sunsets and stargazing here are unlike anything I have ever experienced and there is nowhere in Morocco that has sand dunes as majestic as the ones you’ll see in the Sahara.
KASBAH TAMADOT - ATLAS MOUNTAINS
By far one of the most buzzed-about luxury properties in all of Morocco - Richard Branson is the owner after all - Kasbah Tamadot is a former fortress that has been transformed into a luxe mountain retreat with stunning grounds and sweeping views of the Ouirgane Valley.
During our stay, you’ll have the chance to soak up this luxury retreat where you can wander the gardens, catch some sunshine in the pool, indulge in a traditional Hammam or simply kick back and relax with your favorite book.

WHERE WE’RE STAYING ON THE EXTENSION:
Located in one of the residential and green areas of the city, Casablanca Hotel is dripping with Art Deco extravagance. This small boutique hotel features individually designed rooms, world class dining outlets, a pool and tranquil garden.
One of the most beautifully designed luxury riads in Chefchaouen, Riad Cherifa is a 12-room boutique property crafted from two traditional houses and tucked away in a quiet street amid the old medina.
This colorful riad combines traditional Moroccan-Andalusian decor elements and modern amenities. Don’t miss the hammam and hanging out on the hotel’s rooftop lounge area.

Our tours have always been limited to small groups of women and we often opt for private transfers, tours & when possible stay at small boutique hotels.
Our travel agency (Scorby Travel & Cruise) will assist you in purchasing the required travel insurance policies.
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
If this trip needs to be canceled for any COVID 19 reasons, we will reschedule this itinerary to a future date OR your funds will be applied to a future Gals Abroad Getaways trip.
Cancellations for any other circumstances need to be reviewed on an individualized basis as described within your mandatory travel insurance policy provisions (which Scorby Travel & Cruise will assist you in purchasing).

Can I come solo?
YES OF COURSE (that’s what most of our gals do)! Please make a note of this on your registration & we will always work to pair you with a fellow solo traveler. If we cannot find you a roommate, you would have the option to join & pay a single supplement fee or opt to join us at a later date. Email galsabroadgetaways@gmail.com if you have any questions!
How much free time will we have?
In contrast to other Gals Abroad Getaways group trips, this destination lends itself to a more guided tour due to the number of destinations we are visiting and the remote nature of some of the places we are visiting like the Sahara and the Atlas Mountains. That said, in destinations like Marrakech - free time is encouraged to make sure that you get to do exactly as you please. You will be given two evenings to dine at your leisure & an entirely free day on our 4th day in Marrakech to craft your own itinerary (we of course will have plenty of suggestions for you). During our time in the Atlas mountains at Kasbah Tamadot - you will have time to relax by the pool, enjoy a spa treatment or opt into any optional activities depending on how you’re feeling.
On the extension there will be some free time to explore in both Fes & Chefchaouen and certain evenings where you can opt in or out of dinners.
Can I come early or stay late?
ABSOLUTELY! Many of our gals either come in a day early or extend their getaways by a few days or even tack on other travel plans. We are always happy to assist in your planning/booking if you’d like the help. Shoot us an email galsabroadgetaways@gmail.com
I want to have a room to myself, is that an option?

What is the activity level?
This trip is for the intrepid traveler who is not afraid of long drives on uneven roads, lots of walking and sometimes being outside in hot temperatures. This trip involves a lot of walking, standing, and moving around in sometimes busy cities. We always do our best to accommodate all travelers, and will have private transport to and from activities but keep in mind that due to Moroccan infrastructure some days it will be easier & quicker to walk.
Our gals should be willing and able to walk up to 3+ miles each day and be able to stand for extended periods of time. Our top priority is your safety & ability to enjoy this tour as intended. By signing up for any of our trips, you agree to and understand that a certain level of physical fitness is required to safely participate in this itinerary.
Is there an age requirement/limit for this trip?
You must be 21 years of age or older to join any Gals Abroad Getaway. While we do not have an age limit we do suggest that anyone joining this trip be comfortable with walking up to 3+ miles each day, up and down stairs, soft trekking in the Atlas Mountains, and be able to stand for extended periods of time.
What should I pack?
Don’t you worry, in true Alle Abroad style I will send out a packing list well in advance to those attending so that you have PLENTY of time to shop and plan so you can feel your most fabulous self once you arrive.
How can I get to know the other gals on this trip?
Prior to this trip, we will be sending out a Gals Abroad Getaways “Get to Know the Gals” document + some exciting virtual, IRL opportunities to get to know one another before the trip kicks off.
Do I need to purchase travel insurance?
Yes, everyone will be required to purchase travel insurance for this trip. In order for pre-existing conditions to be covered, this insurance must be purchased no later than 7 days from the date of initial deposit. When you are confirmed for the trip, Scorby Travel & Cruise (Linda’s travel agency) will follow up with insurance options and costs. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement for your trip costs if your plans change for unforeseeable reasons or if you need medical help/emergency transport or experience theft, loss or damage of items while traveling.
Is there a minimum number of participants required to run the trip?
Yes. We require a minimum of 10 travelers to run the main portion of the trip and 10 travelers to run the extension. If we do not meet the minimum, the per-person cost is subject to increase by a nominal amount. If this occurs, we will reach out to each traveler to inform them of the additional cost.
What happens if the tour is postponed?
If this trip needs to be canceled for any COVID-19 reasons, we will reschedule this itinerary to a future date OR your funds will be applied to a future Gals Abroad Getaways trip.
Is there a waiting list?
