DESTINATIONS WE’LL BE VISITING:

Cairo

Our adventure kicks off and wraps up in Cairo, where the vibrant ancient quarter pulsates with colors, sounds, and a timeless energy that has echoed through millennia. Guided by our handpicked Egyptologist, we'll explore a 12th-century citadel, marvel at the exquisite Alabaster Mosque, and gaze upon a trove of priceless artifacts, including the awe-inspiring treasures entombed with Tutankhamun. Capping off our journey, we'll journey to the Grand Egyptian Museum to stand in awe before the iconic Great Sphinx and the legendary Pyramids of Giza.

Luxor

Nestled along the iconic Nile River, Luxor, Egypt, is an enchanting destination that seamlessly blends ancient wonders with modern charm. Renowned as the "World's Greatest Open-Air Museum," Luxor boasts a wealth of archaeological sites that we will tour with our own Egyptologist including the Temple of Karnak, Temple of Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, Hatshepsut’s Temple, and Colossi of Memnon. While here, we’ll also have free time to explore the city's vibrant souks and bustling markets.

Dendera

Just south of Luxor, Dendera is the home of the Temple of Hathor. Dedicated to the goddess of love, music, and motherhood, the Temple of Hathor at Dendera is renowned for its well-preserved and intricately decorated ceilings, featuring the famous depiction of the zodiac. The temple complex also includes the Mamisi, a small chapel dedicated to the birth of the god Horus, and the Sacred Lake. Exploring Dendera offers a captivating journey into ancient Egyptian religious practices and architectural brilliance, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to witness the remnants of a sacred site that thrived during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods.

Kom Ombo

Perched on the Nile's tranquil shores, Kom Ombo in Egypt unveils its archaeological marvel—the mesmerizing Temple of Kom Ombo. Unlike any other, this temple pays homage to two revered deities—Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon-headed god. Its symmetrical layout boasts dual entrances, courts, and sanctuaries dedicated to each divine entity, while intricate reliefs and carvings grace its walls, offering glimpses into ancient medical practices. Set against the picturesque bend of the Nile, the Temple of Kom Ombo not only captivates history enthusiasts with its architectural splendor but also serves as a breathtaking panorama for pondering the enigmatic secrets of Egypt's past.

Aswan

Renowned for its granite quarries that once supplied materials for ancient Egyptian monuments, Aswan is a treasure trove of cultural and natural wonders. The Philae Temple, an architectural marvel dedicated to the goddess Isis, graces Agilkia island on Lake Nasser. Additionally, Aswan boasts the impressive High Dam, a testament to modern engineering prowess in controlling the Nile's annual floods and its vibrant Nubian villages, where rich traditions and warm hospitality flourish.

During our stay in Aswan, we'll embark on a bird-watching excursion aboard a small boat, explore the fascinating Kom Ombo Temple and the Unfinished Obelisk, pay homage to the Philae Temple, and indulge in afternoon tea at the iconic Old Cataract Hotel.

WHO THIS TRIP IS FOR:

Our Gals Abroad Getaways have been carefully crafted for independent women, seeking a blend of immersive cultural experiences, meaningful connections, and fabulous accommodations in some of the most dazzling destinations around the world. Above all else, we value kindness, inclusion, and respect (for our fellow travelers & the destination we are guests in).

Read the descriptions below carefully to determine if this trip sounds like it would be a fit for you:

  • YOU ALWAYS PACK AN OPEN MIND - You are eager to fully immerse yourself in a new destination no matter how different it may be from your day-to-day life & home country

  • YOU LEAD WITH KINDNESS AND RESPECT - We expect our gals to support an atmosphere of mutual respect and inclusion. You strive to always stay positive and prefer to look at life with a glass-half-full mindset

  • FLEXIBILITY IS YOUR MIDDLE NAME - You understand that travel, no matter how perfectly planned and curated, comes with its own set of hiccups and are ready to roll with the punches

  • YOU HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE DESTINATION PRIOR TO TRAVEL - We believe that a bit of preparation and understanding of the destination you are visiting will make any trip 10x more meaningful and help set realistic expectations for the country you’re about to visit

  • YOU’RE EXCITED TO MAKE SOME NEW GAL PALS - whether you’re joining us solo or coming with a gal pal, you’re ready to mix and mingle and make new travel-loving friends on this journey

  • YOU LIKE A BIT OF GUIDANCE BUT DO NOT NEED HAND HOLDING - We pride ourselves on maintaining a high level of customer service from the minute we launch a new trip to the time you return home. That said we empower our gals to be self-sufficient & lean into their adventurous side. Where possible, we will provide some free time so you have the flexibility to explore the city or kick back and relax because we understand that everyone has a different travel style. But we will ALWAYS be there to assist with suggestions & recommendations.

SPECIAL Egypt CONSIDERATIONS:

  • YOU CAN WALK ON UNEVAN SURFACES - Be prepared to walk on sand, stone, and uneven surfaces when going to and from the ancient sites and temples. This will include walking up and down stairs and may include narrow and enclosed spaces (you will always have the option to opt out if you are claustrophobic). We will also be getting on an off-the-river cruise, sometimes needing to board smaller boats to get to shore or experience excursions.

  • YOU ARE PREPARED TO BE ON THE MOVE - To make the most out of your time in Egypt, we’ve created an itinerary that aims to show you the very best of what this destination has to offer while allowing for free time when possible. That said, while some days activities are lighter than others, this is not a trip for those looking to kick back and relax for the entire 12 days (but we are happy to help with booking extra nights at the end of the trip for a little R&R if your schedule allows.)

  • YOU ARE READY TO BE ACTIVE - This trip is for the intrepid traveler who is not afraid of getting up early, lots of walking, and being outside in hot temperatures. This trip involves a lot of walking, standing, and moving around in sometimes busy cities. Our gals should be willing and able to walk up to 3+ miles each day and be able to stand for extended periods of time.

  • YOU ARE READY TO STRETCH YOURSELF AS A TRAVELER - Egypt is a dazzling and incredible country but it can be an overwhelming destination to travelers whose only travel experience has been to North America, Western European countries, or the Caribbean. It’s a destination of dualities and any traveler who wants to visit should make sure you take some time to familiarize yourself with the culture prior to your trip.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE GALS ABROAD GETAWAYS CODE OF CONDUCT AS YOU WILL BE ASKED TO UPHOLD THIS IF YOU WILL BE TRAVELING WITH US.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ABOVE-MENTIONED CONSIDERATIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHOOT US AN EMAIL: galsabroadgetaways@gmail.com

** This trip is open to any self-identifying woman 21 years and older. We reserve the right to decline any request to travel with Gals Abroad Getaways**

QUESTIONS?

  • Can I come solo?

    • YES OF COURSE (that’s what most of our gals do)! Please make a note of this on your registration & we will always work to pair you with a fellow solo traveler. If we cannot find you a roommate, you would have the option to join & pay a single supplement fee or opt to join us at a later date. However, we will never take your deposit without first letting you know where you stand with a roommate. Email to galsabroadgetaways@gmail.com if you have any questions!

  • How much free time will we have?

    • Very similar to our Morocco & India Getaways, this destination lends itself to a more guided tour due to the number of destinations we are visiting and this style of River Cruise. That said, we always offer opportunities where possible to opt into extra activities & optional dinners to make sure that you get to do exactly as you please. On the ship, all of our meals are included & you will be able to dine at your leisure.

    • If you feel like you would like to have some time to explore Egypt deeper we are more than happy to chat with you about arriving early or staying late & can help you with your pre/post travel plans.

  • Can I come early or stay late?

    • Of course! When requesting to register we are taking a head count of all the gals who want to arrive early or stay late. As always, we’re more than happy to assist with booking hotels & activities for any Gals arriving early or extending their stay. Have more questions - shoot us an email galsabroadgetaways@gmail.com

  • What is the activity level?

    • We will be doing a fair amount of walking on this trip on uneven surfaces, some confined spaces, and getting on and off boats. You should be able to comfortably walk for about 3 hours. It will also be a hot and dry environment, so make sure to hydrate to stay healthy!

  • Is there an age requirement/limit for this trip?

    • You must be 21 years of age or older to join any Gals Abroad Getaway. While we do not have an age limit we do suggest that anyone joining this trip be comfortable with walking for up to 3 hours.

  • What should I pack?

    • Egypt is a very conservative country, with roughly 90% of citizens identifying as Muslim. When packing for this trip, we recommend dressing more conservative to respect the local culture, which means covering shoulders, no plunging necklines or short skirts. But don’t you worry, we will send out a packing list well in advance to those attending so that you have PLENTY of time to shop and plan so you can feel your most fabulous self once you arrive.

  • How can I get to know the other gals on this trip?

    • Prior to this trip, we will be sending out a Gals Abroad Getaways “Get to Know the Gals” document + some exciting virtual, IRL opportunities to get to know one another before the trip kicks off.

  • Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

    • Yes, everyone will be required to purchase travel insurance for this trip. In order for pre-existing conditions to be covered, this insurance must be purchased no later than 7 days from the date of initial deposit. When you are confirmed for the trip, we will follow up with insurance options and costs. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement for your trip costs if your plans change for unforeseeable reasons or if you need medical help/emergency transport or experience theft, loss or damage of items while traveling.

  • Is there a minimum number of participants required to run the trip?

    • Yes. We require a minimum of 15 travelers to run this trip. If we do not meet the minimum, the per-person cost is subject to increase by a nominal amount. If this occurs, we will reach out to each traveler to inform them of the additional cost.

  • What happens if the tour is postponed?

    • If this trip needs to be canceled for any COVID-19 reasons, we will reschedule this itinerary to a future date.

  • Is there a waiting list?

    • There will be a waiting list that will run on a first-come, first-serve basis in the event of a space opening up. If this particular trip is full, and you’re still interested in coming, please send an email to galsabroadgetaways@gmail.com to be added to the waiting list

  • Still, have questions? No worries!

    • Send us an email galsabroadgetaways@gmail.com and we’d be more than happy to help!
